On Saturday some of our younger swimmers took part in the final gala of the DASA Junior GP Series. In familiar surroundings at Alfreton, they wrapped up the series with 22 personal bests and two stunning club records.
The full gala results can be downloaded here.
In the opening event, Liv Marshall set the pace, winning the 200 IM by 12 seconds in 2:52.91. She was followed by Eden Saint, Oliver Henshaw and William Hutchinson in the 200 Freestyle. The boys all achieved new PB’s and made a 29 seconds improvement between them.
The personal bests kept on coming with Isabel Axford, Cole Burke, Aiden Fenn, Kitty Keehan, Kiera Newbold, Freya Marshall, Phoebe Stalker, and Lily Whittle all improving their times in one or more events.
In amongst the PB’s, two girls also produced magnificent swims to win their events and beat club records in the process. Lotta Perry-Taylor swam the 10/u 100 Backstroke in 1:25.15 to break the old record by 4 seconds and Jenna Bevan won the 11/u 100 Freestyle in 1:07.90 breaking a record which had stood since 1983.
The new records are always celebrated as they mark the club’s progress and they show that our best can get better. It’s also pleasing to see so many of our swimmers making personal progress, improving their personal bests. These are the result of hard work in training, focusing on skills and technique.
The 2019 Grand Prix series has been a real success for the BMSC and we’ll be taking part again in 2020, with even more swimmers, hopefully, more personal bests and maybe a club record or two!
Kind Regards,
