Mini Marlin’s caters for our youngest and least experienced swimmers. The lessons for these are held at Heanor and Belper, in the teaching pool, then in the main pool when they are sufficiently able. The Learn To Swim Program follows stage 1-7 of the Swim England National Plan for swimming.
To register just fill out the form in the join us page. Please give as much detail as possible. Including age of swimmer, experience of swimming and what stage (even if none) the swimmer is at. Then one of the team will get back to you, to arrange an assessment date, time and venue, convenient for your sells.
Training times are as follows:
Day | Venue | Times | Squad | Session |
---|---|---|---|---|
Thu | Heanor | 19:15 - 20:15 | Mini Marlins | First session 19:15 to 19:45 Second session 19:45 to 20:15 |
Sun | Belper | 16:00 - 17:00 | Mini Marlins | First session 16:00 to 16:30 Second session 16:30 to 17:00 |
In the first session at both sites, we teach stages 1 to 3. When the swimmers are ready they have some time in the main pool. In the second session at both sites, we teach stages 3 to 5. These swimmers are concentrating on technique and strength. They also will have some time in the main pool, getting them ready to be moved up to the main sessions at Belper. We move swimmers up to Belper when we think they are ready to move.
At Heanor we are using the teaching pool. Generally, we have at least two teachers, one who may be in the water whilst the other is on the side. To gain more experience some of our Mini Marlins do both Saturday morning and Thursday night.
To allow the children the experience of competition we hold two mini fun galas each year. The first is around Christmas time, the Mini Club Champs, and the second is just before the summer holidays, The Mini Sprints. They are a lot of fun with medals being presented to the children. In the Mini Club Champs trophies are also presented. We ask all our Mini Marlin swimmers to take part in these fun galas.
When the swimmers are ready to move up to main Belper Marlins we will ask them to do two sessions a week. The children will be supported all the way during this transition period.
Each session is supervised by qualified lifeguards and provides graded lane swimming for all ability levels.
We'd love to have you with us
